Maniacal musings of a pixel perfectionist

The short version
I’m an innovative web developer that efficiently takes problem-solving to the next level. I understand what my clients want and that sometimes they don’t know how to describe it well. I meet any realistic deadline, without rushing the end product and sacrificing quality.

Don’t take my word for it. Check out what my colleagues have to say about my work.

Looking for acronyms and buzzwords? Here’s a list of the technologies in my repertoire:

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • Javascript (Check out some recent Javascript articles of mine)
  • jQuery plugin development
  • Clean, object-oriented PHP 4/5
  • MySQL 3/4/5 structure, optimization, complex queries
  • Flash 2004/8/CS3 and Actionscript 2/3
  • Photoshop skills (not just cropping and resizing – serious skills)

Miscellaneous other skills: symfony framework, Doctrine ORM, Smarty templating, Apache server setup and management, Subversion server setup and competent usage, and a little bit of ASP classic

The long version

I’m a web developer born and raised in the arid desert of Arizona. (Despite the lack of important weather aspects – snow, spring and fall seasons, humidity – and contrary to popular belief, Arizona is indeed livable.)

It didn’t take me very long to realize that I was born to tinker with things. The first family computer (an IBM PC Junior) – and its replacement – both fell in the name of tinkering.

After I got the hang of taking things apart and putting them back together, I discovered the Internet. No, not that Internet – I meant Compuserve chat rooms and AOL. But it didn’t take me too long to discover the actual Internet.

Despite the Internet’s allure, I decided to study “Microsoft Networking Technology” for my Associate of Applied Science degree. It wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, but it suited me for my first real job of network administrator at a small company.

The company sent me to a one-day training course on HTML – so I could manage their website – and I had started my journey. I worked on a Bachelor’s of Applied Science degree in Digital Media Management. It was the closest I could get to web development at the time.

After I graduated, I found out that I really wasn’t taught much of what I needed to know to be a web developer. So I picked up a book and learned PHP. I wrote some rudimentary blog software and a community site (similar in features – but on a much smaller scale – to MySpace).

Today, I’m a passionate pixel-perfectionist programmer with a penchant for punctuation proliferation – and alliteration. I have a keen sense for design and a witty sense of humor – both rare attributes for developers.
